MEET  the  TRAINERS
Marty Oak Simper
Marty Oak Simper has a natural talent for horsemanship. His lifelong captivation with horses has led to a career
in the equine industry. He specializes in Western Pleasure, Lunge Line, Horsemanship, Reining, Team Roping,
and All-Around. Since he was a young boy, Marty has always been enthralled with horses, gaining a winning spirit
and work ethic from his parents who supported him in the show ring and rodeo arenas. As soon as he was old
enough to work, he did so at Maggie Creek Ranch, a 220,000 acre ranch in Elko, Nevada. There he became
greatly influenced by the philosophies of such icons as Tom and Bill Dorrance, Ray Hunt, and Bill Van Norman.
Through their philosophies, he set his foundation for the methods he uses today. After high school, he worked and
apprenticed with such well respected trainers as Clark Parker, Larry Larsen, Mike Dunn, and Brett Stone, assisting
in training many world, congress, and local champions.
Marty is currently the owner of Marty Simper Show Horses and trains out of Heritage Ranch and Stallion Station
in Ogden, Utah. Marty has been training and showing quarter and paint horses on his own for over fifteen years. In
2007, Marty married Chelsea Roth and together have trained and coached multiple champion horses and riders,
respectively. Marty is an AQHA Lifetime Member, and AQHA Professional Horseman, 2000 to present; has
served on the UQHA board for over ten years, the UPHC board, NENHA past president, and a past participant in
AQHA's Exclusive Leadership Program, membership by invitation only. Valued as a respected professional in
Utah, Marty was voted the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Utah Quarter Horse Association Professional Horseman of the
year.
Marty is a well known trainer and clinician throughout not only Utah but the western United States. Marty has
trained horses and riders to championship titles including: over 45 futurity champions, numerous superior
champions, AQHA Congress Top Five Lunge Line, APHA World Champion Walk-Trot Horsemanship, APHA Top
Ten Bridleless Western Pleasure, and AQHA World Champion Reining Finalist, as well as many local
championships in both paints and quarters. Solicited repeatedly, Marty presents many clinics each year in several
communities such as Big Piney, Wyoming; Twin Falls, Idaho; Boise, Idaho; Vernal, Utah; Elko, Nevada; Baker City,
Oregon; Logan, Utah; and of course, Ogden, Utah.
Marty is dedicated and strives for perfection for his horses, his clients, and himself. His determination, hard
work, and experience will continue to make a statement in the equine industry for many years to come. He is
honored to be a part of this years challenge and hopes the spectators will be excited to learn something new this
year.

Bryan Kendrick - Hooper
Bryan Kendrick –
Brian is excited to be a part of this year's Trainer's Challenge. With a passion for horses and everything that goes
along with them, Bryan hopes that he can contribute to this year's Challenge. Bryan has always had the privilege of having
horses in his life. “My grandpa always made sure I had a couple green ponies around and one good one all of the time.”
Bryan laughs because he never planned on being a trainer, he says, “It was easier than getting a job in high school.” He
has spent his time learning the tricks of training rope horses both show horses, rodeo horses, reined cow horses, and
reining. He believes that you can never have a horse too broke. Bryan feels that training is not some secret art that only a
magician can do. Anybody who has a “want to” attitude can be a good trainer. It takes hard work, diligence, simplicity, and
good ol' fashion riding your horse. “They don't train themselves.”
Bryan has been able to see and ride with the best form the show arena, rodeo arena, and to the ranch. Bryan's ears
always perk up when the word horse comes up. “Ya can't help but smile when you walk up to a pen of horses and a couple
put their head over the fence to see what you're all about, or trottin out through the sage brush on a cool, crisp morning
getting ready to gather that day's work.”
Bryan is grateful for this chance to be a part of this years challenge. He hopes that you enjoy yourself and can learn
something to boot. Come visit Bryan at his booth and get to know him. He looks forward to meeting you and shaking your
hand.
Bryan's draw for the challenge is a sorrel gelding named Warrior Fly. He is by Blue Apache Warrior (Hancock bred)
and out of Four Roan Babe.
Jessica Morgans-
Jessica is a western performance trainer with thirteen years of training experience in the reining and cutting arenas. She was
raised under the watchful eye of a father who has been a professional cutting horse trainer for 30 plus years. She began
showing quarter horses at age four in lead line classes and went on to successfully compete in several large associations
including: AJQHA, AQHA, APHA, NRHA, and NCHA. As a youth, she successfully competed in the western events and many
english riding classes. She won numerous awards during her youth including a reserve world championship at the Palomino
World Show. This broad experience as a youth prepared her well for further experience as a professional trainer. Following
graduation from high school, she moved to Texas to gather more skills training at a high end facility specializing in western
events. She was an assistant trainer at the Draggin A Ranch in Pilot Point, Texas under Gary Putnam. Jessica had experience
starting colts and young horses and then began to train reiners specifically. Following her time at Draggin A, she went to work
for the Equine Connection doing the same duties. While in Texas, she extended the depth of her equine experience by attaining
training in equine reproductive management and accepted a concurrent position as a breeding manager. After five years in
Texas, she returned to Colorado to continue training independently. Jessica continued to gain experience and knowledge when
she enrolled in a two year Veterinary Technician program which eventually led her to a position in the Equine Emergency and
Critical Care Unit at the Colorado State University Teaching Hospital with leadership responsibilities. She retained that position
for five and a half years before moving to Utah to help establish a state of the art regional equine referral clinic. Through it all,
she continued to carry that competitive edge that kept her in the show arena.
For the past two years in Utah, Jessica has taken on training full time again. She owns and operates Generations
Performance Horses in Kamas, Utah. Located at High Star Ranch, she raises, trains, and shows cutting and reining horses. Her
primary interest is in the cow horse disciplines. She has, however, had a very broad experience as she spent a year training
under a dressage trainer in attempt to better grasp other methods of training in animation to the reining horse.
She is honored to be chosen to participate and showcase her background at the Utah Horse Expo in the Challenge. She is
passionate about promoting the horse and feels like this is a great venue to do so.
Jessica's draw for the challenge is a bay roan mare named Docs Foxy Britches. “Sophia” is by Twisted Rooster Doc and out
of Lander Lil.
Randy White –
Randy has been training horses professionally since he was 15 years old. He owns and operates White Performance Horses.  He
specializes in Western Horsemanship, with an emphasis in Reined Cow Horses, Cutting, and Reining. He comes from a diverse
background in horsemanship, having worked for all types of trainers, and training all types of horses. He has shown and conducted
clinics across Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. He feels what separates his training program from others is the “feel” and foundation he
puts on his horses. No matter the event, or specialty a horse is going to have, what gives them the best opportunity to succeed is to
be soft, supple, calm, and responsive from head to tail. He is very excited for the clinic, and to show what his little sorrel filly “B-G”
has accomplished. She is a total package, well bred, great minded, and very athletic. For more information about Randy or B-G,
visit his website at
www.whiteperfomancehorses.com
Randy's draw for the challenge is Buenos Smart Chex, aka “B-G”. She is a sorrel mare by Little Quanah Chexs (goes back to Doc
O' Lena) and out of Bueno Chex Smart (goes back to Smart Little Lena).
